Playing a game or finishing a puzzle is one thing, making one is a whole different experience! Game and Puzzle Masters is a summer camp experience for youth ages 7 to 12 where they will design and build a number of traditional games and puzzles, all from scratch (sorry – no video games…). Over the course of the week, your child will learn a wide array of skills and knowledge, all the while having a lot of fun.
They will build a unique jigsaw puzzle from a photo of their choice (often a family photo), design and craft their own maze to challenge their loved ones and build wooden board games from scratch, even fashioning their own playing pieces and dice. These creations quickly become family heirlooms and encourage time together off of screens, all the while giving your young maker the pride in building something that brings joy to themselves and others.
During this camp, your child will learn how to use a number of specialty age appropriate tools. For example, our jigsaws can cut wood and plastic, but cannot cut skin and are safe for child use ages 5+. They will use it in our custom studio where sawdust and air-born particles are sucked into the table itself instead of moving into the air, further improving the environment. Safety is our primary core value and all students will wear eye and ear protection in addition to health requirements (masks, social distancing, etc.).
Your child will also keep all the creations they make and have the opportunity to customize them from accessories and equipment in our Maker Store. They will receive a complimentary $5 daily allowance (no real cash value) for use at the Maker Store, helping them reinforce the value of money and decision making. The store experience helps ensure that every participant makes something truly unique, whether it is a wood selection, a special paint or something fun.
After the week, your child will have a number of new skills, the knowledge to safely use them and the confidence to know they can succeed – and they will earn the title of Game & Puzzle Master.
