Make it Move with STEAM is an incredible summer camp experience for youth ages 7 to 12. Over the course of the week, your child will learn a wide array of skills and knowledge, all the while having a lot of fun. STEAM adds “Art” to the traditional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and introduces a holistic approach to visioning, planning, designing and building.
They will build a working (and moving) solar system model, a solar powered race car, a flightless electric plane, a working windmill generator and even a remote control racer that they will use in the Amazing Maker Race at the end of the week. They will build simple tool boxes, magnet gardens and a number of art pieces that will stay with them for years to come. They will also observe science demonstrations ranging from electromagnets, how magnetism and motors work, static electricity generators and will learn how to make and use energy in their own creations.
During this camp, your child will learn how to use a number of specialty age appropriate tools. For example, our jigsaws can cut wood and plastic, but cannot cut skin and are safe for child use ages 5+. They will use it in our custom studio where sawdust and air-born particles are sucked into the table itself instead of moving into the air, further improving the environment. Safety is our primary core value and all students will wear eye and ear protection in addition to health requirements (masks, social distancing, etc.).
Your child will also keep all the inventions and creations they make and have the opportunity to customize them from accessories and equipment in our Maker Store. They will receive a complimentary $5 daily allowance (no real cash value) for use at the Maker Store, helping them reinforce the value of money and decision making. The store experience helps ensure that every participant makes something truly unique, whether it is a motor upgrade, a special paint or something fun.
After the week, your child will have a number of new skills, the knowledge to safely use them and the confidence to know they can succeed.
